FARMERS ARE MECHANICS

IMG_0063.jpg

Project Goal:

For this piece I plan to create a wall piece assemblage of old/worn/broken metal parts that have been replaced in farm machinery(chains, combine head teeth,  along with possibly nuts, bolts, washers, etc.) in a monochromatic color scheme. I have also considered recreating hammers, pliers, screwdrivers in a smaller scale with clay to add as well. Pieces would be painted and glued to a wood board or plaque to resemble the phrase "Farmers are Mechanics'', to showcase how farmers have to be versatile, flexible and change plans on the fly if something breaks down they have to fix things ALL THE TIME, or the crops don't go in the field or come out.

Process:

Pieces for this project are found throughout my dads shop on the farm, some are broken, some are found in bins and areas in his shop. These will be welded together and assembled in a way that is pleasing to the eye. I am hoping to sandblast the whole thing after I paint it and then scratch it up with rough sandpaper and put it outside to rust and look even more distressed.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration for these pieces stem from my family farm and the objects that relate to it. I chose pieces of machinery for this project and a silhouette of my dad working. My dad is one of the most inspirational people I know, and his dedication and passion for what he does never seises to amaze me.
